David was born January 26, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Curtis and Laura Thomas. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Ida May (Sandra) Carrick on July 6, 1962. David was an avid volunteer tutor at the Family Literacy Center in Lapeer. He enjoyed sailing, and participated in the Port Huron to Mackinaw Race 29 times. David left the city to enjoy the quiet life on his small farm, where he enjoyed mowing as a form of meditation and working on projects for the house. He also was an avid car enthusiast. His prize was a 1972 MG Midget he had been lovingly restoring.
David is survived by his wife Sandy, children: Corinne (Peter) Shields, Martin (Annette) Thomas, 2 grandchildren: Zackary, and Erin. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Richard and Pearl.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of David’s Life will be held at a later date when it is safe to do so. Arrangements entrusted to Jansen Family Funeral Home - Columbiaville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of David may be made to the Family Literacy Center in Lapeer.
