Meleia Kay (Moffitt) Sanders, age 66, passed away Wednesday evening October 27th surrounded by her family in the comfort of the home she loved. She was born on May 20th, 1955 to her loving parents Lawrence and Johniece Moffitt and was raised with her two brothers here in Flint, Michigan.
Meleia was many things. A daughter, a wife, a mother, a Mimi, a friend and caretaker. She was a master planner, perfect estimator and habitual furniture rearranger. Her faith and ultimate trust in The Lord and His plan for her life was what not only carried her through this last year but all of life’s challenges. She was confident knowing her life was in his hands. She loved her family and friends and lived for her fourteen grandchildren. If there was one thing she treasured most it was the family traditions she both started and carried on through the years. Reading through some of her final thoughts she wrote,
“I love my family, you must know that! Way deep inside.”
And then she made a list (because that was one of her most favorite things). It read, Going to Pentwater
Crossroads Village
The beaches for the day
Hikes to explore
Parks to play
Campfires to host
The baby swing in the backyard
Many trips to Colorado
Sleepovers with Mimi and Poppi
Time spent at The Bowman Club
The tire swing and the hammock
Going for ice cream
Watching the kids events
And for her last one, she wrote with a smiley face scrawled beside it,
Everyone teasing and making fun of me.
Meleia didn’t need anything fancy or extra. It was about doing the things she loved with the people she loved. Life for her wasn’t about the grand gesture but instead it was life’s simplest pleasures that brought her the most joy.
She ended her note with something she’d say often,
“Be kind always, and think the best in all things.”
That was our Meleia.
She will be greatly missed by so many.
