Obituary of Michael Joseph Sefton
Loving husband, father and grandfather, Michael Joseph Sefton, went to see his precious Lord on Nov. 9, 2022 after a long, brave battle with Lymphoma. He was raised in Oxford, MI, and graduated from Oxford High School in 1969. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Juanita Sefton, brother John Sefton, and grandson baby Levi. He will be greatly missed by loved ones including his wife, Deborah, sister, Susan (Rich) Hipkins, sister-in-law, Laurie, many brothers and sisters by marriage, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Mike’s biggest accomplishment was being a father and grandfather and he considered himself lucky enough to have three wonderful children, Hayley (Camron) Nellis, Samual (Natalie) Sefton, and Michael (Ashley) Sefton. He adored his 11 grandchildren: Henna, Joseph, Aiden, Katie, Ezra, Ben, Asher, Bella, Levi, Maverick, and Lorelai as well as many close nieces and nephews. He was a devoted husband to Debbie (Olson) and they celebrated their 50th Anniversary this past June. He loved the beauty of nature and especially enjoyed every tree and flower on his wooded 12 acres. He enjoyed building his home, bit by bit, over a period of 40 years. Mike was an accomplished athlete sharing his love of baseball, golf and volleyball with his family and friends. An educator, he taught for many years at Holy Redeemer Schools in Flint, following 20 years of service at Oakdale. Mike coached and refed in many capacities but was especially proud to coach girls’ varsity volleyball at North Branch and Lakeville Schools. He and Debbie traveled to many places and went to four Olympic Games. Mike lived a life full of love and adventure. Please come celebrate his life with us; visitation at Jansen Family Funeral Home in Columbiaville, MI, is Sunday, Nov. 13 from noon to 6 p.m. and funeral service is Monday at 11 a.m. at Columbiaville United Methodist Church followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Mike’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Share memories, condolences, and pictures with the family at www.jansenfuneralhome.com
