Obituary of Edith Cree

Edith Jay Kovarik-Carson Cree, formerly of Houston, TX and Newark, NY, passed away peacefully in the presence of family, Friday, October 26, 2018, in Lansing, Michigan.  Edith was born October 29, 1936 in Penn Township, Allegheny County, PA to William Edward and Julia (Arno) Kovarik.  At an early age, Edith went to live with her future adoptive parents, Rev. Paul E. Carson and Edith A. Jay Carson of Mercer County, PA.

After graduating from Northbridge High School, Whitinsville, MA, Edith attended Sterling College (KS) and later as a second career she studied Radiology at San Jacinto Community College (TX).  Edith worked in the Harris County (TX) Clerk’s office for many years issuing marriage licenses and retired as Radiology Technician at VA Hospital, Houston, TX.  Edith had a lifelong love of sewing and was an accomplished seamstress.

Edith is survived by her three children, Daniel (Pamela) of Thurmont, MD; Robert (Mary) Cree of Newark, NY; and Catherine (Gary) Baird of Mason, MI.  Also, her grandchildren, Nicholas (Hilary) Cree of Thurmont, MD; Lisa (Aidan) Smith of Middletown, MD; Robyn Cree (Ben Clopper) of Atlanta, GA; Acalia (Chris) Tanea of Houston, TX; Ashley Baird of Portland, OR, and Brandon Baird of St. Petersburg, FL, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  Edith is also survived by two sisters: Alva Kovarik Coletta of Garden City, MI, and Anne Kovarik-Carson (Andy) Kasznay of Lancaster, PA, and special friend, Anne Howell of Mason, MI.  Those preceding her in death:  her parents, her former husband, David Cree of Austin, TX; her brothers Louis (Hazel) Kovarik, and Hugh Kovarik, both of East Pittsburgh, PA.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Sparrow Hospice, Lansing, MI for their compassionate care of Edith during her final days.

A graveside service will be at Church Hill Cemetery, Turtle Creek, PA at the convenience of the family.
